WATCH: Family of cop killed by wife want maximum sentence

Ntinga family calls for hefty sentence for wife and co-accused guilty of Kwambonambi warrant officer's murder

The family of the late KwaMbonambi warrant officer, Nkosinathi Ntinga, who was a victim of a murderous plan masterminded by his wife – herself a former SAPS officer – want her and her co-accused to be handed a maximum sentence.

Ntombizodwa Ntinga and her co-accused, Samkelo Mpanza, were on Wednesday convicted for the murders of Nkosinathi and his friend Mpendulo Mdluli, as well as for robbery and kidnapping.

Speaking after mitigating and aggravating arguments at the High Court in Mtubatuba, the spokesperson for the Ntinga family, Mdumiseni Mkhize, said they hoped for a maximum sentence for the convicted accomplices after the matter was adjourned to Friday, 28 March for sentencing.

Mkhize, a neighbour and close family friend of the Ntingas, who considered the late warrant officer as a younger brother, said the two deceased were young, with much still expected and hoped for them.

He described Nkosinathi as an active member of the community which felt safe because of his presence as a police officer.

“No one deserves to die. Those who killed deserve a sufficient ukujeza,” said Mkhize.
