Department official is nabbed for tractor theft
Official nabbed for alleged involvement in the theft of two tractors in the King Cetshwayo District
A government official was arrested on Thursday in connection with the theft of tractors belonging to the KZN Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
According to reports, a departmental official based at Inkosi Owen Sithole College of Agriculture was allegedly involved in the theft of two tractors, with the official reportedly co-ordinating the movement of the tractors from their original location in Mbonambi under uMfolozi Municipality.
MEC Thembeni kaMadlopha-Mthethwa commended the arrest, saying a departmental senior official in King Cetshwayo District reported the matter to the traffic police of uMfolozi.
This resulted in the interception of the tractor in Sokhulu, where it was being driven by a man – suspected to be an accomplice of the departmental official.
“We are committed to rooting out rotten elements within our ranks. Wrong-doers must face the consequences of their actions and the full might of the law.
“We thank our senior official in King Cetshwayo District, who worked with the police to apprehend the suspects,” said Mthethwa.
The official is being detained and expected to appear in court for theft.
