ZULULANDERS can expect rolling blackouts overnight tonight (Thursday) until 5am tomorrow.

This as Eskom implemented stage 2 load-shedding somewhat abruptly just after 4pm today, with immediate effect.

According to the power utility, higher-than-expected electricity demand, loss of generation units, and extensive planned maintenance have placed strain on the system despite ‘significant progress’ in generation recovery efforts.

“Given these ongoing constraints, we urge the public to use electricity sparingly to help reduce pressure on the grid,” said Eskom.

The power utility said it would provide updates as necessary.
