WATCH: CIT driver shakes off pursuers by racing through Durban mall

CCTV footage shows cash-in-transit van turning into shopping mall's pedestrian precinct to stave off potential attack

A suspected cash-in-transit (CIT) heist was foiled on Wednesday by the quick thinking of a cash van driver.

The incident, which occurred in uMlazi, was caught on CCTV cameras, and shared on Facebook by Suburban Control Centre and Arrive Alive.

The footage shows a CIT vehicle entering a shopping mall parking lot, closely pursued by a white bakkie.

The cash van can then be seen making a right turn.

On reaching the place where the cash van turned, the bakkie is seen stopping, turning round and driving away from the area.

The footage then switches to inside the shopping mall.

Shoppers are seen fleeing from something, towards the CCTV camera.

The CIT van is then seen driving through the pedestrian precinct, seemingly the only way to avert an attack.

This foiled heist comes amid a spate of CIT robberies across KZN, the most recent ‘successful’ attack occurring on the R618 near Mtubatuba on Tuesday evening.
