KZN municipalities lauded for clean audits
uMhlathuze, uMlalazi and King Cetshwayo among seven municipalities celebrated for achieving clean audits for 2023/24 financial year
KZN Premier Thami Ntuli has commended seven municipalities in the province for achieving clean audits during the 2023/24 financial year.
Among them are uMlalazi and uMhlathuze local municipalities, and King Cetshwayo District.
This follows last week’s release of the Auditor-General’s report on the Municipal Finance Management Act audit.
Ntuli commended the municipalities for their ‘accountability and sound financial management’, which he said is driving progress toward a corruption-free and efficient government.
“With the current collaborative approach of this government, every municipality in the province can aim for the highest standard of clean audits.
“Mayors who show commitment deserve to be celebrated, and we must profile the good work they are doing,” said Ntuli.
He noted that achieving clean audits is ‘not merely a compliance exercise but a pledge to transparency and responsible governance’.
The premier called for further collaboration between provincial oversight bodies, including the Municipal Public Accounts Committees (MPAC) and KZN Cogta, to maintain this momentum.
“Building on this achievement, the province is poised to inspire new hope for good governance,” he said.
