Snow in 3 provinces: What the latest cold front means for KZN and Zululand region

Icy conditions expected in some provinces from tomorrow (Wednesday) until Friday

As South Africans gear up for another severe cold front, the Eastern, Western and Northern Capes are set to bear the brunt of the icy weather.

As forecast by the South African Weather Service (SAWS), an intense cold front is set to hit the affected provinces from tomorrow (Wednesday) until Friday.

“The public and small stock farmers are advised that very cold, wet and windy conditions with heavy rainfall, strong interior winds and gale force coastal winds, very rough to high seas and light snowfall on the high-ground can be expected,” said the SAWS.

A yellow level 2 warning for damaging waves has been issued for the coastline from Plettenburg Bay to East London.

Precipitation-wise, snowfall is forecast on Thursday for Lesotho and KZN’s high-lying regions.

The KZN coastline can expect isolated showers (30% probability) up to Richards Bay, with warm, dry conditions further north on Thursday.

In contrast, Accuweather predicts zero rainfall for Richards Bay and Empangeni on Thursday, with bright sunny skies and highs of 29 degrees Celsius, dropping to 21 degrees on Friday.

Low temperatures will sink to 14 and 10 degrees on Thursday and Friday respectively, with weekend highs of 22 and 19 degrees on the cards.

Conditions are much the same across the Zululand region, with the exception of Mtubatuba, which can expect a chilly 21 degrees on Friday with 60% chance of rain, clearing up on Saturday.

eShowe’s lows will plummet to 8 degrees on Friday, with forecast highs of just 16.
