KZN health department launches men’s clinics

KZN health MEC urges men to prioritise healthcare, preventative procedures

Health checks, screenings and medical intervention is vital to prevent disease and improve health among men.

To this end, the KZN Department of Health has rolled out 129 men-friendly clinics throughout the province to support men’s health.

Health MEC Nomagugu Simelane, speaking at the department’s KZN Health Chat multimedia programme in Durban recently, said, “Men must know their health status and seek medical help when they are sick – that is not a sign of weakness.

“We urge men to come to our clinics, community health centres and hospitals. It’s important for men to get tested and know where they stand as far their health is concerned.” said Simelane.

She added that this reluctance has devastating consequences, with many men dying from illnesses that could have easily been treated.

Explaining the men-friendly clinics, she said, “These clinics don’t only deal with issues such as erectile dysfunction. They address men’s health needs holistically, including ailments such as high blood pressure, diabetes, mental health, HIV, TB, cancer screening, and much more.”
