Refuse collection remains suspended

City of uMhlathuze residents urged to keep their trolley bins on their premises as waste collection remains suspended

Waste collection in residential areas across the City of uMhlathuze remains suspended until further notice, as confirmed by the municipality on Sunday.

This is owing to ongoing strike action involving South African Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu) affiliated employees, now in its 10th day.

In its latest public message to residents, the city said, to prevent littering and vandalism of trolley bins, residents are urged to keep their trolley bins secure on their premises.

“Furthermore, the option for residents to take their waste to eMpangeni landfill [King Cetshwayo District Municipality] has been extended until further notice. Your patience and understanding during this time will be greatly appreciated,” read the city’s statement.
