2 Ulundi rapists each sentenced to 20 years

Ulundi Regional Court hands down 20-year sentences to convicted rapists

In two separate cases, convicted rapists were each handed 20-year sentences by Ulundi Regional Court.

In August 2023, Bongani Sibisi (42) raped his 34-year-old neighbour while she slept.

The court heard how the neighbour was drinking at the victim’s home with her family on the night of the incident.

She recalled how, after going to bed, she woke up to Sibisi raping her and, after screaming for help, he fled the scene.

A case of rape was reported at Ulundi Police Station and the docket transferred to Ulundi FCS for further investigation.

In December 2022, a 43-year-old man kidnapped and repeatedly raped a woman on her way to her child’s father’s home in Ezimfabeni.

She had alighted from a taxi near to where the accused lived, and he followed and accosted her before taking her to a nearby home where he raped her more than once.

Thereafter, he took her to her destination where she shared what had happened.

The accused’s parents and community elders were called, but the accused managed to flee before being arrested five months later.

Both men were handed 20-year sentences.
