Countdown to carnival: Art, jazz and flavour at Mtunzini’s Art in the Shade

Weekend of the arts and plenty of activities in store at Mtunzini Rotary Club's annual Art in the Shade carnival

The countdown to Mtunzini’s Art in the Shade carnival is on, with festivities under way from Friday, 26 to Sunday, 28 September.

Now in its ninth year, the Rotary Club of Mtunzini’s annual fundraising project has a weekend of the arts and plenty of activities in store.

On Friday, the art gallery will be open at Mtunzini Primary School’s hall from 2pm to 7pm for viewing, while the official opening, with free entry, is from 5pm to 7pm.

From 7pm to 10pm, head to Mtunzini Country Club for a Gin and Jazz evening with René Tshiakanyi. To book, contact 082 9057521.

On Saturday, the school grounds transform into a carnival between 9am and 5pm.

Browse the craft market, play carnival games, and enjoy the food court, art workshops and educational talks.

The beer tent will be open from 10am until midnight, broadcasting rugby on the big screen, with a pre-game analysis by two rugby experts. A DJ will keep things lively from 9am to 5pm, and live music will be played by Rebound Band.

Sunday is fun day with the Big Zini Bake-off. Bring your home-baked cake, using granny’s famous recipe or your own, then impress the judges with a slice and watch the rest sell.

The Chilli Champ competition will test how many chilli dogs can be devoured in a minute.

All the while, coffee, tea and eats will be on sale.

For entries or more information, contact Karin on 072 8608741.
