WATCH: Twice the trouble – two 2m cobras found days apart in family home
Two massive brown forest cobras found in same False Bay, Hluhluwe house just three days apart
A False Bay, Hluhluwe family was left reeling this week after two 2m forest cobras were found in their home just three days apart from each other.
“That’s one large inyoka [snake]!” exclaimed Donald Schultz as he grabbed the head of the 2m female cobra from underneath a desk.

She was first spotted by the homeowners behind their television, but by the time snake catcher Schultz arrived, she had disappeared.
She was located nearby and safely captured for relocation; however, the False Bay family’s snake drama was not yet over.
Three days later, Schultz was called back by the homeowners – to catch another, even larger cobra, estimated to be 2.2 – 2.3m long.
“This sometimes happens when a female moves through an area, all the males will pick up on her scent and try to find her. It doesn’t always happen, but it’s not rare,” said Schultz.
“The brown forest cobra is the largest cobra in Africa. They are usually around 2m long, but can reach up to 3m. They are really good snakes to have around as they eat puff adders and spitters, and very rarely bite,” said Schultz.
This activity signifies breeding season and is a common occurrence with cobras, mambas and pythons.
