WATCH: Schoolchildren survive horrific accident

Bakkie, carrying schoolchildren aged between 8 and 18 years, collides with another vehicle in Vryheid

Several school pupils suffered various injuries after the bakkie in which they were travelling collided with another vehicle in Vryheid.

The accident occurred early this (Tuesday) morning. KwaZulu Private Ambulance spokesperson Craig Botha said the bakkie, carrying schoolchildren aged between 8 and 18 years, collided into the side of a car.

“When emergency services arrived on scene, they found multiple patients requiring immediate medical attention. Paramedics quickly triaged the scene and provided emergency medical care to the injured patients,” said Botha.

“Of the total casualties, three patients sustained serious injuries and were prioritised for urgent transport, while 12 additional patients sustained minor injuries.

“All 15 injured parties [were] transported to local medical facilities for further treatment and care.

“The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the relevant authorities. No further details are available at this time.”
