During this year’s launch held at the Ulundi Garden Court, ZDM Mayor Michael Khumalo revealed that Kaizer Chiefs participates in the tournament, adding star power and excitement to the event.
The Prince Mangosuthu 6th Legacy Cup will be held at Prince Mangosuthu Regional Stadium in Ulundi on Saturday, 11 October.
“This tournament not only celebrates Buthelezi’s legacy, but also serves as a catalyst for youth development and economic empowerment in the district.
“The tournament provides a platform for aspiring young footballers and creates vital employment opportunities for local communities. The tournament is more than just football, but a celebration of heritage, unity and opportunity.
“We are proud to host this event and honour the legacy of a man who dedicated his life to uplifting our people. Following the tournament, we will honour Princess Phumzile, daughter of the late Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, with a commemorative horse racing event to be held at KwaMahlathi in Ulundi on Sunday, 12 October.
Princess Phumzile was among the dearest of Prince Buthelezi’s children, and it is worth remembering that Prince Buthelezi himself was a passionate horseman in his youth,” said Khumalo.
The launch was also attended by various amaKhosi, other dignitaries from various walks of life, as well as representatives from various sports fraternities.

At the launch, AmaZulu FC was drawn to face defending champions Njampela in the first semi-final, and Kaizer Chiefs will face Nsingizini Spurs in the second semi-final.
AmaZulu FC communications manager Philani Ndlela said, “It’s a tough draw for us. We know Njampela very well, we know coach Tshepo Motsoeneng, and we have followed his career for a long time. We know what we are up against, and we will prepare accordingly. Most importantly for us is to play two games on the day and to give our players an opportunity because we are playing with the full squad. We are fully committed, and the players are excited. We want to make our fans happy.”
Kaizer Chiefs’ head of communications Vina Maphosa was in a bullish mood after being drawn against Nsingizini Hotspur from Eswatini.
“We are going to participate in this tournament with the intention of winning and leaving with the trophy. It’s a beautiful trophy,” he said.
