Cuppa for CANSA venue and date change

Zululand’s Cuppa for CANSA, led by Dr Jayeshnee Moodley, blends high tea, French flair and expert advice

Zululand’s upcoming elegant high tea, Cuppa for CANSA, hosted by Dr Jayeshnee Moodley, will offer a fresh twist with an interactive panel of specialists.

To be held on 22 November from 10am to 1pm at Outlook Church Richards Bay, the event raises funds for the CANSA Association and Zululand Hospice.

The panel will include experts in general surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, oncology, psychology, social support and dietetics.

“The idea behind this is simple: patients and families often have specific questions about cancer – not only diagnosis and treatment, but also aftercare, rehabilitation, emotional support and nutrition,” explained Dr Moodley.

The panel aims to empower patients and families through open dialogue, addressing questions directly from the audience.

“By engaging in this collaborative way, we hope to not only educate but also provide reassurance, support and practical guidance to families navigating the difficult journey of cancer.”

The discussion will begin by highlighting cervical cancer, the most common gynaecological cancer in northern KZN.

On the panel
Dr Jayeshnee Moodley, specialist obstetrician and gynaecologist at Melomed Richards Bay, has led a free cervical cancer screening campaign for 12 years and offers a cancer-prevention colposcopy clinic at Queen Nandi Regional Hospital. A mother of two toddlers and wife to Randal Pedro, she is passionate about women’s health.

“Cancer is not an individual’s journey! As a community, we need to stand together. Together, cancer can be beaten!” she said.

Dr Mariëtte Mouton, specialist plastic and reconstructive surgeon in Richards Bay and the only permanent plastic surgeon in Zululand, provides reconstructive procedures and aesthetic enhancements.

“Being part of Cuppa for CANSA is close to my heart. Every cup truly makes an impact,” she said.

“The best gift you can give yourself and loved ones is early detection. Know your body, go for screenings, and don’t ignore small changes – catching cancer early saves lives.”

Dr Irene Coutsoudis, a family practitioner in St Lucia for 15 years, combines conventional medicine with a holistic approach focusing on mind, body and spirit.

“Cancer reminds us that life is fragile, but we can strengthen our bodies and minds through nourishing food, movement, relationships, stress management and, above all, hope and faith,” she said.

“It is deeply meaningful to lend my voice to this cause and contribute toward a future with better prevention, treatment and support.”

Dr Jade Caris Mogambery, specialist physician and infectious diseases doctor, completed her internship at Ngwelezana Hospital and, after marrying, returned there as a specialist. After her son’s birth, she joined Melomed Hospital in 2019.

Dr Nonhlanhla Cebekulu, clinical and radiation oncologist in Empangeni since 2023, wants to expand awareness, share treatment methods and debunk myths.
