New uMkhanyakude mayor tackles water issues

Newly-elected uMkhanyakude District Mayor pledges to prioritise water provision, rebuild public trust through improved service delivery.

THE provision of water is the biggest priority for newly-elected uMkhanyakude District Mayor Comfort Khumalo.

“Our main goal is to serve residents, and our service delivery and cofunction is to provide water and sanitation. People of uMkhanyakude need water. We are from various local municipalities, and the only thing people want from us is water,” Khumalo told employees last Friday.

“We can reduce water crises, as the new office bearers and councillors. We are not here to destroy what has been made. We will continue to complete what the previous administration has done.”

He said they will improve where they can, but not interfere in areas that are working well.

“People don’t trust us anymore; they claim government has made empty promises. We want to change what we do,” Khumalo concluded.
