Union urges City of uMhlathuze to prioritise payments

SAMWU slams uMhlathuze Municipality over R16m in new job adverts, demanding payment of outstanding salaries, overtime before recruitment.

THE majority trade union in the City of uMhlathuze has raised its disapproval about recently advertised job vacancies by the municipality.

The South African Municipal Workers’ Union (SAMWU) in the Shonamalanga Region claims the 16 advertised vacancies would cost the city more than R16-million in remuneration.

The union’s regional secretary, Zandile Gumede, said SAMWU is unhappy with this development while current employees receive short pay and are denied their rightful overtime compensation.
