Excitement builds for this weekend’s Leomat 1 000

Corporates, individuals encouraged to enter 2025 Leomat 1 000, taking place this weekend

Local swimmers are getting ready for the annual Leomat 1 000, set to take place at Arboretum swimming pool this weekend.

Now in its 34th year, the popular event includes Learn to Swim relay races of 100m and 1 000m for schools and clubs; a 1 000m relay for corporates and a 250m swim on Friday from 12.30 to 6pm.

The main event on Saturday takes place from 8am to 1pm and includes the 500m, 1 000m and 1 500m individual swim.

Businesses are encouraged to enter Friday’s corporate race as a fun teambuilding event.

Five swimmers enter, there are no rules, they can use floaties or dress up – anything goes for the fun of the event. Donations from participants are welcome.

“Funds raised go towards helping swimmers in eSikhaleni to learn to swim and compete in galas, with the aim of reaching provincial and national level.

“Many from our programme have gone on to be lifeguards and coaches, also ensuring job creation,” said Leomat 1 000 organiser Shirley Davidson.
