Teen missing, presumed drowned in St Lucia

iSimangaliso said the three boys, all aged 14 and from Hluhluwe, were swimming at St Lucia's Jabula Beach when they got into difficulty

TWO teenage boys received emergency medical treatment and one is missing after the three got into difficulty while swimming in the sea off St Lucia.

The incident occurred earlier today (Thursday), as reported by the iSimangaliso Wetland Park authority.

iSimangaliso said the three boys, all aged 14 and from Hluhluwe, were swimming at St Lucia’s Jabula Beach when they got into difficulty.

“The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) responded promptly and rescued two of the boys, and they are currently receiving medical attention at the hospital. Sadly, one boy remains missing,” said iSimangaliso on their Facebook page.

“iSimangaliso extends its heartfelt sympathies to the affected family and community during this difficult time. Search efforts are ongoing.

“iSimangaliso urges the public to prioritise safety by following lifeguards’ instructions, ensuring children are supervised at all times, avoid alcohol consumption at the beach, and adhere to park rules.”

This incident follows a near-drowning at Port Durnford yesterday.
