Vandalism, cable theft interrupt water supply in uMkhanyakude

uMkhanyakude district mayor warns against acts of vandalism and cable theft which severely impact service delivery

uMkhanyakude District Municipality has condemned acts of vandalism and cable theft, which disrupted water supply to some communities.

The municipality said the incident occurred at the Mankankaneni borehole on Wednesday morning, interrupting supply to the communities of Ezidonini, Mayakazi, Ngoqongo, Gudlintaba, Savage, Madwala, Ximbakazi, Madunjini, Mpembeni, Okhalweni and Ezihlahkeni.

District Mayor Siphile Mdaka said an investigation is under way, and urged residents to report any relevant information to the authorities.

“This senseless act undermines our total turnaround strategy aimed at improving service delivery.

“Despite this setback, we are not deterred, we remain resolute and committed to water supply in advancing our development goals.

“I have requested a full report from the Operations and Maintenance Department in order to canvas possible legal intervention,” said Mdaka.

He called on communities to report any suspicious activity to authorities.
