Richards Bay contestant Ashay rides popularity wave on Big Brother Mzansi

Big Brother Mzansi contestant Ashay Sewlall voted most likable housemate as he continues to cement his spot in the competition

Evading eviction, winning competitions and challenges, while massively boosting his social media followers are just a few ways Richards Bay’s Big Brother Mzansi Bazozwa contestant is staying out of the hot seat.

Winning R5 000 and the chillers punch competition with his ‘Pele-Pele’ flavoured can design, Ashay Sewlall was also voted the most likable housemate, cementing his spot in the Big Brother house.

With six of his housemates nominated for possible eviction this coming Sunday, Ashay’s fans and family are celebrating that he is not on the list.

The creative challenge, which Ashay used to reflect his personality and uniqueness, incorporated his trending slogan as the spicy Indian guy ‘Paprika’, as he is affectionally dubbed by his followers.

With his cultural diversity, smooth dance moves and natural charisma bringing fun and flavour to the house, Ashay’s social media following continues to climb.

His girlfriend, Tamica Biggar, has called on Ashay’s fans to register to vote when voting opens to save him when he does come up for eviction.

Biggar said she has been coping well while Ashay is on the show, and continues to praise his fans for their steadfast support.

“While Ashay is not up for eviction, his supporters have been backing him all the way,” she said.

Biggar recalls what a journey this experience has been and that, while it was not pre-planned, it has all worked out.

“We recently moved in together, so Ashay and I had a conversation about everything before he left our home.

“He explained that this platform would be filled with a lot of love but also a lot of hate.

“He warned me that people may try to get into my head, and asked me to be strong and trust that he is doing this for our relationship.

“And he was so right. By the third day, I had received thousands of death threats, hateful messages, bullying and hate speech.

“I didn’t feel I could do it, but I just held onto what Ashay had shared with me, and will continue to stay strong for him.

“Watching him as my boyfriend in the Big Brother house is a mix of so many emotions, and his qualities of being kind and respectful have brought him much support.”
