Fuel prices to drop again at midnight

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy has again announced another drop in fuel prices for February

Motorists are in for yet another fuel price reprieve at the pumps as from midnight tonight (Tuesday).

The price of petrol will decrease by 65 cents per litre and diesel by 50 cents per litre.

Illuminating paraffin is also set to go down – by 53 cents per litre.

In January, petrol decreased by 62 cents per litre, while diesel users saw a bigger relief, with reductions of R1.50 per litre.

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) attributed the drop in fuel prices to several factors, including crude oil prices and international petroleum product prices.

“The average international product prices decreased due to availability of inventories, despite increase in crude oil prices.

“These factors led to lower contributions to the basic fuel prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin by 36.46c/l, 24.59c/l and 21.13c/l respectively.

“The prices of propane and butane increased during the period under review due to the cold weather in the northern hemisphere and tighter global supply,” said DMRE Minister Gwede Mantashe.
