Police investigation under way after tragic death of local principal

Principal gunned down and vehicle set alight with his body inside after mass prayer on the N2

Just hours after he had joined a mass prayer for N2 accident victims, KwaMbonambi Primary School principal, Jabulani Sibanyoni, was brutally murdered on Friday.

He was reportedly shot and killed on the way to Mandlanzini, and his vehicle was set alight with his body inside.

uMfolozi Mayor Xolani Bhengu led a delegation of councillors to the school on Monday, joined by religious leaders, traditional leaders, parents and community members.

“Teaching and learning in every school is the responsibility of everyone; that is why we opted to abandon our work and come to visit the school,” Bhengu said.

Senior Induna of the KwaBuyazi clan, Alson Mpangela, said he reported the matter to the local iNkosi on Sunday.

“iNkosi Mbuyazi conveyed his condolences to the family and the school. What I know is that the truth will come out,” Mpangela said.

King Cetshwayo Cluster Police spokesperson, Captain Siyanda Shangase, said an inquest docket was registered and is under investigation.
