Children survive serious crash in Empangeni

Truck rear-ends an NP200 bakkie along the R34 near Central Park in Empangeni

Three little children miraculously survived a horrific accident that occurred along the R34 near Central Park in Empangeni on Thursday afternoon.

Reports from the scene suggest that a truck rear-ended an NP200 bakkie that was carrying two children in the back and three occupants in the front, including the driver.

The canopy was flung away due to the force of the impact. The bakkie had reportedly slowed down to go over speed humps.

The impact of the truck into the NP200 caused the bakkie to rear-end another bakkie, according to witnesses at the scene.

Three vehicles were involved in total. The NP200 passengers, including three children, suffered moderate injuries.

Mounties EMS attended the scene and treated two occupants for serious injuries, while a further five sustained moderate injuries.
