Strike action on R34 and R66 in uMlalazi

The municipality is engaging with affected stakeholders and communities to resolve both matters urgently

MOTORISTS were delayed as protesters stopped traffic on the R34 and R66 in uMlalazi, eShowe this morning.

On the R34, the affected route included oDukaneni, while on R66 it was Mlalazi Bridge in the KweYamineyakho area.

The strike action on the R34 was reportedly due to community dissatisfaction with the contracts related to the road rehabilitation in oDukaneni; while on the R66 it was water-related service delivery issues, a function of the King Cetshwayo District Municipality.

Luleka Mbonambi, acting communications manager at the uMlalazi Municipality, said both incidents resulted in road blockages and severe traffic delays.

“Traffic officials, SAPS, and relevant municipal teams are on site to monitor the situation, manage traffic flow, and ensure public safety,” said Mbonambi.

She added that the municipality is engaging with affected stakeholders and communities to resolve both matters urgently.

“We apologise for the inconvenience and appeal to the public for patience and cooperation during this time.”
