WATCH: Marsha ‘The Machine’ Muller tackles day 2 of gruelling 7-marathon charity run

Running for a cause: Icons 4 Change take on 7 consecutive marathons for underprivileged youth. Here’s how you can support their cause

Marsha ‘The Machine’ Muller and her fellow Icons 4 Change are making their way through the Eastern Cape on day 2 of the Icons Journey Marathon.

For the second of their 7 consecutive 42.2km standard marathons, the endurance athletes are running from Seymour to Waterdown Dam today (Monday) – tackling some serious hills, by all accounts.

More than just a run, the Icons Journey Marathon follows in the footsteps of South Africa’s struggle stalwarts in their fight for freedom.

The run is used as a platform to raise funds for underprivileged children, with the group of icons visiting various schools along the route.

Speaking to the Zululand Observer on Sunday night, Marsha gave a rundown of their experience on day 1.

“We had a really good day. At one time, we broke off into three smaller groups but soon joined together again and ran together until the end,” she said.

“Day 2 is a 12km climb right at the beginning, so we will go slower than anticipated – you can’t break yourself on the second day!

“Runners from various clubs in Alice came to run with us on day 1. There were two girls who ran their first 42km ever, and stayed with us the whole way – that was really amazing.

“It feels a bit daunting if you think about all the days ahead, so I’m just thinking about each day as it comes.”
