Infant’s body found being scavenged by dogs in KwaMbonambi
KwaMbonambi police register inquest docket after 7-month-old baby is found in Nzalabantu
An urgent community meeting has been scheduled for Sunday after the body of a seven-month-old boy was found being scavenged by dogs on Tuesday morning at Nzalabantu reserve in KwaMbonambi.
The incident, which has shocked residents, occurred in the Empangele area under uMfolozi Municipality.
Ward Councillor Bhekumuzi Sithole said community members alerted him after noticing dogs had dragged what appeared to be a human body into the yard of a nearby house.
By the time the body was discovered, some of the infant’s limbs were reportedly missing.
“We immediately contacted the police, who attended the scene and removed the body,” said Sithole.
He said the incident had prompted the community to convene an urgent meeting to discuss the circumstances surrounding the baby’s death.
“We believe this may involve the abandonment of an infant. We are appealing to parents to check on their children and to speak openly with them in an effort to prevent similar incidents,” he said.
Confirming the incident, KZN SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Thenjiswa Ngcobo said police in KwaMbonambi have registered an inquest docket for investigation.
