Recovery efforts undertaken after a delivery truck overturns on the N2 near Port Durnford

Traffic on the N2 at Port Durnford again came to a halt during rush hour this (Tuesday) morning, as recovery operations got under way to right an overturned truck.

This after a delivery truck had crashed and overturned, coming to a halt on the centre median, at around 3am.

The driver suffered injuries and was stabilised on scene by Mounties EMS paramedics before being transported to hospital.

According to reports from the scene, the driver was held up at gunpoint while the truck was looted.

From 6.45am, both lanes on the N2 northbound at Port Durnford were closed as Joey’s Towing arrived on scene to recover the overturned truck and for its remaining load to be moved.

The South African National Roads Agency (Sanral) was on scene directing traffic, which was slowly flowing via the emergency lane while the two main lanes were closed for the recovery.

Shortly after 8am, the truck was back on its wheels and the remaining load was being moved to another vehicle, but work had to be done to cut the mangled load box so it could be towed.

As at 9am, it was envisaged that the recovery operation would take some hours yet, owing to the work needing to be done to be able to tow the truck, but traffic was flowing fairly easily.
