Residents retch as sewer spill stinks in Meerensee

Residents raise frustration over unbearable smell and raw sewage flowing from the sewer to the street in Meerensee

Persistent sewer leak problems are still getting up the noses of residents in Perlemoen street, Meerensee, in what has been ongoing drama on a stinking situation that started in April.

Flushed with anger, residents, including some from a crèche that is right in the stench line, again demanded action on Wednesday when the smell became unbearable and raw sewage flowed from the sewer to the street.

Residents have watched and waited for improvement since a repair team dug a hole to mend collapsed pipes in the road in July.

Toilets in homes have become blocked, and some residents have taken to wearing face masks as they call for more super suckers.

Potential health impacts are also an ongoing concern, especially with young children in close proximity.
Service delivery failings throughout the city remain the public’s main source of complaint.
