Police nab suspects in connection with the murder of Ceza CPF member Bonginkosi Mbatha
Zululand District police have arrested two suspects following an intelligence-driven operation in connection with the murder of a CPF member in May.
According to KZN SAPS’ Sergeant Thenjiswa Ngcobo, the operation, conducted on Tuesday, linked the suspects to the murder of CPF member Bonginkosi Mbatha (51) from Sizana area in Ceza.
“Mbatha was shot and killed at his home on 6 May. The operation yielded positive results when the police arrested two suspects, both aged 30 years old,” said Ngcobo.
The first suspect was arrested in the Hlobane area where he had allegedly visited his girlfriend.
“He led the police to the KwaMnyathi area where a firearm and ammunition were hidden. Further investigations led to the arrest of the second suspect at his hideout spot in Ulundi,” added Ngcobo.
The suspects will be joining a 25-year-old man who was arrested immediately after Mbatha was killed.
They are expected to appear before the Vryheid Magistrate’s Court today (Wednesday).
“The investigation into the murder of Mr Mbatha is continuing, and further charges may be added as the investigation progresses. The recovered firearms are subject to ballistic testing to determine if they are linked to any criminal activities,” said Ngcobo.
