Earlier this month, more than 1 000 CMA members attended a special general meeting to decide the organisation’s future relationship with KZN Athletics (KZNA) and Athletics South Africa (ASA).

The decision follows months of tension surrounding the CMA’s governance and affiliation arrangements.
In November last year, CMA members voted to withdraw as a special member of KZNA and seek direct affiliation with ASA.

The ASA subsequently informed the CMA that direct affiliation would not be permitted and encouraged the parties to resolve their differences.

Following further discussions, the matter was put back to CMA members, who reaffirmed their desire for the association to chart its own course.

“Our members have once again confirmed their preference for the CMA to chart its own course. We are confident that we have the resources, experience and commitment to continue presenting a world-class event, and we are excited about next year’s centenary edition of the race,” said CMA chairperson Mark Leathers.
