EMPANGENI residents and businesses have endured low water pressure and intermittent cut-offs for the past two weeks, with reportedly little clarity from the City of uMhlathuze on the cause of the disruption.

Among those affected is Collette Govindsamy, whose home-based catering business has been hit by the unreliable supply.

Govindsamy said her business relies heavily on a consistent water supply, making the ongoing disruption particularly challenging.

Areas affected include Weightman Avenue, Bluebuck Street, Apollo Street, Intrepid Street, Agena Crescent, Alan Bean, Gemini, Conrad, Kildare and Panorama.

On Wednesday morning, Govindsamy said water had been restored, but the pressure remained low, particularly in the mornings.

“Yesterday the plumbers said that they also didn’t understand why, because the main line had water,” said Govindsamy.

The city’s ageing water infrastructure has come under scrutiny in recent weeks, with several communities experiencing prolonged outages, including parts of eSikhaleni and Dlangezwa townships.

City communications manager Simphiwe Makhanya could not confirm the cause of the low water pressure affecting the affected areas.
