King Cetshwayo launches forum to tackle rural cemetery challenges
King Cetshwayo District has launched a cemetery forum to improve planning, registration, management and maintenance of rural burial sites.
TO ensure correct planning is in place for rural cemetery facilities, the King Cetshwayo District Cemetery Forum was launched on Wednesday last week.
This aims to address the capacity deficit at regional cemeteries, impacting those under amaKhosi and religious institutions in rural areas.

King Cetshwayo District Deputy Mayor Philile Xulu says, “One of the key challenges identified was a capacity deficit. This planning shortfall often results in these sites not being registered, being unregulated, and being poorly managed by authorities.
“There is no clear maintenance plan, no structured numbering system for allocated gravesites, and a lack of records of the bodies that are interred within those communal cemeteries. This ultimately leads to rural burial sites being neglected.”
