THE cold snap of winter is fading fast and the warmth of spring is around the corner.
But if you can’t seem to shake those winter blues and are looking for something to snap you out of your funk and put you on the path to positivity, it all starts with you.

You’ve no doubt come across these points before, but sometimes going over them at a key point in your life can trigger the change you never knew you needed.
1. Get into a positive routine
There is only so much time in the day, and if you’re notorious for wasting time or focusing on bad habits instead of good, then you need to start from scratch and get yourself into a positive daily routine. This needs to include a balance of work, play and rest so you’re not depriving yourself while also meeting your physical, emotional and spiritual needs. If you know you spend too much time on social media, consider removing the apps from your phone or getting a blocker. Replace this with positive habits and get into a routine that improves your mood and life.
2. Set out attainable goals
Making grand gestures and huge changes is tempting but often unsustainable. Rather consider real goals you want to achieve daily, weekly, monthly and annually, and start working towards them. You need to get into positive habits, which means starting small and allowing the positivity to grow. The key to setting goals is remembering to be flexible. This doesn’t mean copping out, but adapting your goals realistically as your situation changes to ensure you keep those goals within reach.
3. Factor in exercise
No good change comes without exercise. Physical activity releases mood-enhancing hormones, improves your health as well as keeping you mentally and emotionally strong. Don’t start making excuses – there are always lots of those. Rather set attainable exercise goals and include them in your daily routine. Start small with something you feel you can achieve, and get to it. Ask a friend to join if you need motivation or want to make this even more sociable.
4. Learn to live in the moment
Worrying about the past, stressing about the future and agonising over what everyone else has and you don’t is not beneficial in any way. Stop regretting things you can’t change and prepare for problems that will never come to be, and rather focus on living in the moment. It sounds cheesy, but once you’ve mastered the art of taking pleasure out of the little moments in life, everything falls into place.
5. Learn something new
A new skill or learning new information means more knowledge, more confidence, and more understanding. When you start learning, you start having more compassion for others, more patience and a thirst for even more knowledge. It’s a wonderfully positive cycle. You don’t have to take on a course in astrophysics, you can start by reading a novel you’ve put off, or even watching a documentary about an informative topic.
6. Start ticking off that bucket list
If the last few years have taught us anything, it’s that we shouldn’t put off for tomorrow what we could do today. If you don’t already have one, compile a bucket list of adventures you want to achieve, even if this is just visiting the local park you haven’t been to. Then start physically ticking them off. This creates a real sense of achievement while also fulfilling your dreams and desires.
7. Spring clean
Finally, it’s time to declutter and enjoy a fresh start. Studies show the more clutter you surround yourself with, the more stressed you are and the less satisfied you are in life. Clear out the mess, improve your living satiation and start feeling better about your life. A clear space equals a clear mind.
Start your positive living today!
