BLOGGING THE VIEW: 5 things to know about the 95th Oscars
Who's in and who's out at this year's Oscars?

On Sunday, 12 March, we will be celebrating almost a century of the Academy Awards as the globe’s biggest stars step out of their gilded cages and onto the red carpet in the hopes of holding that elusive Oscar.
Whether you’re going to watch the hours-long ceremony or catch the highlights on Monday, here are a few things you can look forward to.
1. Who is hosting this year?
Going with a fairly safe option, this year’s Oscars will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel for the third time. He hosted the ceremony solo in 2018, after which they attempted a show without a host – which didn’t quite hit the mark.
2. Who is presenting?
There are many, many presenters to hand out the many, many awards on this very long night. This year, you can expect some old favourites, including:
Halle Bailey, Antonio Banderas, Elizabeth Banks, Jessica Chastain, John Cho, Andrew Garfield, Hugh Grant, Danai Gurira, Salma Hayek Pinault, Nicole Kidman, Florence Pugh and Sigourney Weaver, Riz Ahmed, Emily Blunt, Glenn Close, Jennifer Connelly, Ariana DeBose, Samuel L. Jackson, Dwayne Johnson, Michael B. Jordan, Troy Kotsur, Jonathan Majors, Melissa McCarthy, Janelle Monáe, Deepika Padukone, Questlove, Zoe Saldaña and Donnie Yen.
3. Who is in the running for Best Picture?
Among all those many golden awards in 23 categories is the big one – Best Picture. Here are the top 10 nominations for the 95th edition:
· All Quiet on the Western Front
· Avatar: The Way of Water
· The Banshees of Inisherin
· Elvis
· Everything Everywhere All at Once
· The Fabelmans
· Tár
· Top Gun: Maverick
· Triangle of Sadness
· Women Talking
4. Who are the top actors in line for the Oscars?
Michelle Yeoh has been nominated for her role in Everything Everywhere All at Once, with Cate Blanchett up for Tár. Brendan Fraser is a hot favourite for his role in The Whale, and Austin Butler for portraying Elvis.
In the supporting categories, Angela Bassett is in line for Black Panther: Wakanda Forever and Ke Huy Quan for Everything Everywhere All at Once. Best Director could go to Steven Spielberg for a third time, this year for The Fabelmans.
5. What are the controversies?
Harvey Weinstein, #OscarsSoWhite, and the slap heard around the world… the Oscars have been properly tarnished the past few years, and there will undoubtedly be something to capture the world’s attention this year.
With no women nominated for Best Director, we’re likely to see the #OscarsSoMale hashtag go viral, but with Oscar winner Will Smith banned for a decade, the dramatic slaps might not be as frequent this year.
