1. Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)
Easter egg: Easter eggs!
Considered one of the first films to incorporate Easter eggs, the cast and crew of the Rocky Horror Picture Show apparently had an actual Easter egg hunt on set before production started. The result was that some of the Easter eggs were still visible in certain movie scenes, such as under chairs and on railings.
2. Ready Player One (2018)
Easter egg: Movie References
Director Steven Spielberg is renowned for using Easter eggs in his films, and one of his latest ones is Ready Player One which is jam-packed with references to various movies, including The Shining, Back to The Future, and Iron Giant. 3. Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
Easter eggs: Star Wars
Directors George Lucas (of Star Wars fame) and Steven Spielberg have collaborated on a number of projects, but it’s in this Indiana Jones film that we witness an Easter egg crossover. 4. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (1977)
Easter egg: The THX-Factor
Back to George Lucas! His first sci-fi movie as a student was called THX 1138 and this is actually referenced in Star Wars as Chewie’s cell number when he was pretending to be a prisoner. It’s also the licence plate number in American Graffiti, another of Lucas’ pre-Star Wars movies.
5. Fight Club (1999)
Easter egg: Starbucks
The moral of fight club is effectively fighting consumerism, and what better representation of this than Starbucks? That’s why director David Fincher included a Starbucks coffee cup in every scene of Fight Club, being held, on desks, or sprawled on the floor.
6. Back to the Future (1985)
Easter egg: Twin Pines Mall
The cult Back to the Future films have so many great layers every time you watch them, and this weekend is a good time to look out for the Twin Pines Easter Egg. Easter egg: X Marks the Spot
Another director that loves a bit of Easter egg use in his films is Martin Scorsese. In his classic film The Departed, he emulated Ford Coppola’s use of oranges by using the letter X to foreshadow death. The X could be the crossing of beams, the design on a carpet, or the actual letter.
