RBCT

STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT 2018

At Richards Bay Coal Terminal
we recognise that we have an important role to play in developing our communities.
Our corporate social investment (CSI) initiatives are aligned with the company’s overall people and growth strategy. RBCT lives out their slogan “coal to the world, growth to the nation.”
The purpose of Corporate Social Investment (CSI) at RBCT is to promote and entrench the quality of the underprivileged communities.
Over the past few years, RBCT’s approach to Socio-Economic Development (SED) has moved towards a philosophy that is fully accountable and geared towards providing sustainable solutions to genuine needs identified in the community.
The success of this philosophy is in investing in sustainable programmes.

Our primary focus is on education, early childhood development, skills development, community welfare, environment, crime prevention, HIV/Aids as well as sport development. Our main aim is to promote the development of self-reliant communities and to facilitate sustainable community development programmes.
In 2018, we spent R3.4 million on the following community projects.

RBCT donated an amount of R866 620 in 2018 to 25 NPO’s
Our main focus was in the following areas:

10 laptops were awarded to the top performing learners at the King Cetshwayo District Excellence Awards Ceremony

RBCT awarded Mbuyiseni High School with R100 000 as one of the top achieving schools recognised at the King Cetshwayo District Excellence awards. This amount went towards upgrading their Strong Room in 2018.

RBCT partnered with the Imbumba Foundation with their ‘Caring for Girls’ initiative. RBCT distributed 77 040 sanitary pads among three rural schools, to the value of R115 009, in 2018. A total of 642 girls benefit from this programme on a quarterly basis.

Five young soccer stars experienced the trip of a lifetime when they jetted off to England for a football adventure that could change the course of their lives. RBCT in partnership with Anglo American on the One Vision One Dream Tour sponsored the boys each with a kit bag and full training kits.
