Stevens propels to podium

USHAKA Swimming Club’s Jordan Stevens recently propelled his way to five medals at the 2017 South African Aquatic Championships in Durban.

The 17-year-old qualified for the youth section of the prestigious event.

The event has three sections, namely youth, youth elite and senior in which Olympic swimmers such as Chad le Clos, Myles Brown and Cameron van den Berg competing.

Stevens clocked times that pushed him into the youth elite section for 2018.

The Grantleigh School learner claimed gold in his section for the 400m individual medley with a time of 4.45.06 and an overall SA ranking of 9th.

He went on to pick up silver in the 200m butterfly (2.11.65), 200m individual medley (2.12.64) and 50m butterfly (26.21) events.

His time in the 200m individual medley earned him an overall SA ranking of 16th.

He also picked up a bronze medal in the 100m butterfly event (58.46) and competed in the 200m freestyle (1.59.96).

Jordan will continue his training throughout the off-season focusing on dry land training and recovery in the beginning, before hopping back into the pool next month.

He will compete at the South African Short Course gala in Pietermaritzburg in August, before competing in local galas from October.
