Goals galore at EHS soccer challenge

Plenty action at schools soccer challenge

THE popular annual Central Park Spar and Empangeni High School Junior Soccer Challenge was played on Friday and Saturday.

Eleven girls teams battled it out on Friday afternoon in the U15 and U16 age groups, following a round robin format.
John Ross College claimed the U15 crown with 7 log points, closely followed by eShowe on 6 points.

eShowe’s Slondiwe Mkhize was awarded the U15 Player of the Tournament award for her standout efforts on the day.

In the U16 age group, Felixton College won Pool A with 9 points and took on Pool B winners eShowe (4 points) in the final.

Felixton earned the bragging rights for 2017, beating eShowe 2-0.

Felixton College’s Sinethemba Mzimela picked up the U16 Player of the Tournament award.

Boys action

The U15 boys teams also competed in two pools following a round robin format.

John Ross College won Pool A with Ekuphileni High winning pool B.

Old Mill goalkeeper Sandile Ntuli is well beaten by an EHS spot kick

Ekuphileni High took the title after edging out John Ross 1-0 in a closely fought final.

The Man of the Tournament award went to Mvuselelo Muzolo of Ekuphileni High.

Host school EHS took the U16 title after ending on 10 points, closely followed by second placed John Ross College on 9 points.

Mlungisi Qwabe of Empangeni High bagged the Man of the Tournament award in this age group.
