Weather affects angling

The rough conditions have resulted in only a handful of catches being reported, with the odd dorado, tuna and kingfish on the bite

THE recent inclement weather and massive waves along the Zululand shoreline have prevented crews from launching over the past week – which perhaps was not such a bad thing as by not fishing brownie points were earned with the wives.

The rough conditions have resulted in only a handful of catches being reported, with the odd dorado, tuna and kingfish on the bite.

Once again, trolled lures have been the bait of choice, with the darker shades working particularly well.

The red and black Kona-type lures have proved effective for sailfish, with the purple and black lipped lure working for dorado and tuna.

On the rock and surf side of things, Mtunzini has been the spot to fish owing to it’s large reef structure which does not get affected by the large swells.

The popular spots in Mtunzini produced some good sized inedibles.
