Comrades marathon postponed, new date pending

A new date will be determined by ASA, KZN Athletics and the Comrades Marathon Association as soon as conditions allow

IT has been confirmed that the 2020 Comrades marathon has been postponed, among numerous other events on the athletics calendar, owing to the extension of the national lockdown.

Athletics South Africa (ASA) president, Aleck Skhosana, said the suspension of all athletic fixtures remains in place until government lifts the lockdown.

‘This affects all fixtures and programmes between 26 March and 30 April.

‘We will review our position when the government issues new measures.

‘The Comrades Marathon is therefore postponed from 14 June to a suitable date that will be determined by ASA, KZN Athletics and the Comrades Marathon Association as soon as conditions allow.

Chairperson of the Comrades Marathon Association, Cheryl Winn, said they welcomed the announcement.

‘CMA’s position is that the health, safety and welfare of our runners, volunteers and the public are the top priority.’
