The 2022 world cup qualifying games are underway in most parts of the globe. Almost all of the countries that are able to compete for a spot have started their journey in the group games in order to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup. This will be the first world cup that will held in November to December due to careful consideration of the climatic weather conditions in that part of the world.

Bafana Bafana have already kicked off their campaign against Zimbabwe. Newly appointed coach Hugo Broos will be hoping that his preparations are enough to come out on top in a tough group. South Africa’s national soccer team is in Group G alongside, Zimbabwe, Ghana and Ethiopia. The team will have two days of rest before taking on the Black Stars on Monday. There are 40 countries competing in the African qualifying second round, the 40 teams have been split into 10 groups of 4 teams. Each of the four teams within a group will play the other teams twice. The second stage of the CAF qualifiers will finish at the end of November which will lead the 10 teams who are at the top of their group to the third round of the qualifiers which will be played in March 2022. The top five teams in the third round will then progress to the World Cup in Qatar.

The European qualifiers have recorded the highest number of teams competing for a spot in the world cup finals with the European teams having a total 13 spots available for the finals next year. 55 teams will be competing in the first round of qualifiers which will take place over the next week with the first rounds finishing in November. There are 10 groups with 5 to 6 teams within a group for the European qualifiers. The second round or play-off stage will be played in March 2022 where the winners of that stage will advance to Qatar 2022. The big football countries are all leading the group stages at this point but there are some exceptions to this as Armenia is currently leading Group J ahead of Germany having not lost any of their group stage matches.

Other regions from around the world are also busy playing their world cup qualifiers. These regions include South American Football Confederation, the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football and the Asian Football Confederation.
