World Cup: Messi tipped for Golden Boot despite Argentina loss

Messi among the predicted top goal scorers of the tournament

ARGENTINA’S loss to Saudi Arabia in their first game of the Soccer World Cup in Qatar earlier today (Tuesday) may have been the biggest upset in football history, but that does not change the fact that Lionel Messi is among the players most likely to win the Golden Boot Award.

This is according to data released by LotteryCritic.com who have created a points-based index system looking into the top 50 most expensive players travelling to the World Cup.

The index analysed goal-to-appearance ratio so far this season, and each player’s FIFA23 shooting stats.

Messi is fourth on the index’s list of most likely Golden Boot winners, behind Robert Lewandowski of Poland (favourite), France’s Kylian Mbappe (second) and England’s Harry Kane.

The Golden Boot Index has striker Lewandowski to be among the top goal scorers of the tournament after he scored 95.9/100 on the index, while Mbappe scored 92.85, Harry Kane 91.85 and Messi 89.8.
