This new addition to Ford’s electric vehicle lineup is a reimagined version of the Mustang Cobra Jet 1 400 prototype that was unveiled during the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic.

But the Super Cobra Jet 1 800 takes things to a whole new level with its unbelievable 1 800 horsepower which translates to a jaw-dropping 1 342 kW of power. This powerhouse of a vehicle is set to challenge the standing world record for full-bodied electric vehicles in the quarter-mile. That record, set by the Cobra Jet 1 400, currently stands at 8,128 seconds and 276 km/h.

Ford Performance is pulling out all the stops for this latest venture, aiming to showcase its latest advancements in electric vehicle technology. The company’s team of engineers and designers have been working tirelessly to upgrade the car’s chassis, powertrain, and control systems as well as developing a lighter-weight battery system that complements the vehicle’s performance.

To maximize the Super Cobra Jet 1 800’s potential, Ford Performance has also reworked the car’s rear-end suspension geometry and added larger drag radials from Mickey Thompson.

All of these improvements work in tandem with Ford Performance’s proprietary control software running on AEM-EV hardware, and a new data acquisition system, dash and power distribution system, all of which are designed in-house.

As the Super Cobra Jet 1 800 aims to break records in the quarter-mile, it will also attempt to claim records for the fastest electric vehicle 0-100 km/h and fastest two-wheel drive electric vehicle 0-100 km/h during an NHRA event later this season. And who better to take the wheel for this record-breaking attempt than MLe Racecar’s co-founder and official program test driver, Pat McCue.

The Mustang Super Cobra Jet 1 800 prototype is a groundbreaking achievement in the world of electric vehicles. With its immense power, innovative technology, and record-breaking potential, Ford has once again proven its commitment to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the automotive industry.
