Marking a significant step in the French automaker’s efforts to push its model upmarket, the 2023 iteration of the Peugeot SUV features a host of new updates, including an exterior redesign, a selection of four powertrains, advanced equipment and an all-new electric motor. The model is set to receive further enhancement in 2024 with the introduction of a hybrid system.
Peugeot’s new lighting signature, which was introduced with the new 508, is now a standard feature across the 2008 range. The updated design features three vertical light claws incorporated into the gloss black inserts of the redesigned bumper, while the fresh grille showcases the new Peugeot emblem. The Active models feature a horizontal grille pattern in gloss black, while the Allure and GT variants come with a vertical pattern that matches the bodywork colour. The new LED taillights and redesigned alloy wheels round off the exterior changes, with the latter being referred to by Peugeot as “disruptive.”
Inside the cabin, the 2008 features fresh seat fabrics, a new design for the 10-inch digital instrument cluster fitted to the Allure and GT models, and an improved ambient lighting system with eight selectable colour options available only in the GT. The automaker has also equipped all models with a 10-inch touch-screen infotainment system featuring Peugeot i-Connect with wireless CarPlay and Android Auto, while the Allure and GT models are also equipped with HD technology. The multifunction steering wheel features the new Peugeot badge, and the centre console has a reworked manual gearshift knob with improved ergonomics.
The new 2008 is available with four powertrains depending on the market, including a 1.5-litre diesel, an all-new electric motor, and two 1.2-litre petrol engine options. The petrol engines produce between 75-96kW of power, with the less-powerful one available in a six-speed manual guise only, while the more powerful model can also be had with an eight-speed auto-box.
The diesel engine produces 96kW of power and is exclusively sold with an automatic transmission. The all-new electric foundation features a 54kWh battery connected to a 115kW motor and provides a maximum driving range of 406km. According to Peugeot, a 100kW DC public charger replenishes the battery from 20-80% in 30 minutes, while a 7.4kW AC wall box does the same in four hours and 40 minutes. A 3.2kW plug takes the battery from 0-100% in 11 hours and 10 minutes.

Peugeot has also announced plans to introduce a new hybrid setup in early 2024, which will combine the 96kW petrol engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system for improved fuel consumption and more spirited acceleration. Overall, the 2023 Peugeot 2008 promises to be an exciting and well-equipped compact SUV that will cater to a wide range of drivers.
