Richards Bay FC are ‘Downed’ in MTN8

Mamelodi Sundowns defeat Richards Bay FC to reach MTN8 quarter final

As expected, Mamelodi Sundowns cruised to an easy MTN8 quarter final win over Richards Bay FC at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria this evening, with a convincing 4-0 score line.

Two goals in each half made the result sure, even though the Brazilians can thank NRB for one soft goal and an own goal in the first stanza.

The first was from a poorly defended corner kick that bounced on the 6-yard line with plenty of players ball-watching, and the second an own goal by skipper Simphiwe Mcineka when he and outrushing keeper Salim Magoola failed to communicate.

The third goal, giving Iqraam Rayners his brace, was marginally offside but not flagged, and Magoola would have been disappointed to see it slip inside the near post.

Strangely, the fourth and final goal was via a massive deflection when Magoola had the ball well covered.

Still, no complaints, as the score reflected the dominance of the home side.

That said, once the Rich Boyz deserted the defensive set-up they had hoped would contain the Brazilians, they showed plenty of thrust on attack.

The game was superb preparation for the Betway Premiership league that starts on Saturday for NRB, against Marumo Gallants at the King Zwelithini Stadium.
