WATCH: Rich Boyz unlucky to share the points

History made as Richards Bay FC hosted first home PSL encounter at uMhlathuze Stadium

More than 5 000 fans packed the uMhlathuze Stadium last night (Wednesday) to welcome the Natal Rich Boyz back ‘home’ after over 4 years since they last kicked off in Richards Bay.

Steady drizzle throughout the afternoon continued into the first half of the encounter with TS Galaxy, but this did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the spectators.

They were especially delighted with the dazzling display in the first 30 minutes, capped off by a stunning goal from young Wandile Ngema, which smashed into the back of the net (1-0).

Alas, the visitors found the equaliser just before the break, and it was by pure fluke.

With the NRB wall lined up, Sphesihle Maduna strode to the ball to shoot hard and low but slipped and only managed to scoop it into the air beyond the defensive line, where Rockets’ skipper Mlungisi Mbunjana poked it past Salim Magoola in the Richards Bay goals (1-1).

The second stanza saw the home side increasing the pressure but failing to deliver the winning blow, including a penalty miss by Tshepo Mabua in the 75th minute.

With only a single point to show for their hard work, the NRB boys are almost on the road as they face Stellenbosch FC on Saturday.
