Tendele Coal has been in operation at it’s Somkhele Operation since 2007. During the inception of the Mine it was envisaged that the Mine would operate 1 plant and employ 150 people. The operation has since then expanded to 3 plants and more than 1300 people employed on the Mine. We are also privileged to extend various forms of support to the surrounding Mpukunyoni Community.

More than 120 Trained in Work Place Exposure programmes, e.g. fencing, alien weed eradication, scholar patrol, minerals processing, laboratory, engineering
10 Security Guards trained and placed on workplace exposure programmes in 2018
Further 34 Guards Trained in Grade C,D & E in 2018
Around 60 Community members trained in various Entrepreneurship Programmes
1100 Scholars from 9 Schools participated in “Vulamehlo” career counselling programme
120 N1 to N3 Level learners attended studies during a joint venture with Richtech at the Edu Centre
38 Apprenticeships facilitated through the Mine in 2017/18
More than 800 community members trained in crop production during a joint venture with Richtech at the Edu Centre

LEGO PARTNERSHIP

25 Teachers trained from 25 creches in Izigodi around the mine
R600 000 worth of Lego sponsored to schools reaching some 2000 children

LOCAL ENTREPRENEURS
15 Taxi owners providing employee transport
47 local entrepreneurs & 150 local drivers transporting coal to the Richards Bay Harbour

BURSARIES
10 Laptops to 2018 top performers
8 Community beneficiaries received bursaries and study assistance, including one full time

MATRIC AND TEACHER SUPPORT
On average 65 scholars assisted with Maths & Science supplementary teaching in 2018

Various soccer, netball & marathon sport events sponsored in 2018
Sponsored some wheelchairs for needy individuals in the community as well as the Ingaqa school

Future Mining Challenge/Impact on CSI
Although the Mine is experiencing challenges with securing new Mining areas for which it has the Mining rights, we remain positive that we will soon achieve a break-through which will extend our mining operations and the privilege to continue with similar contributions for at least another 10 years
