This as the City of uMhlathuze’s Cllr Struwig earlier today (Thursday) issued an alert of multiple water leaks affecting various suburbs, with ‘little to no water expected in various areas’.
Affected areas in Richards Bay include the CBD, Arboretum and surrounding areas. Struwig advised that the city is attending to the leaks.
Moreover, in Empangeni, the water supply has been isolated in the Grantham Park area owing to a leak at the corner of Erica and Watsonia roads.
As advised at lunchtime today (Thursday), the team was preparing to excavate, with the estimated time for repair being five hours.
City of uMhlathuze communications manager Simphiwe Makhanya confirmed that the water interruption was as a result of a burst pipe at the Mandlazini reservoir.
“Affected areas are Alton, Aquadene, Brackenham, eNseleni and surrounding areas. No estimated time for restoration. We apologise for any inconvenience caused,” said Makhanya.
