We asked – Kwatsaduza residents answer

Does the government do enough to punish corrupt officials?

Nthabiseng Ndlovu: “I don’t think so. Most of them seem to resign and are never actually taken to task or paying back whatever they stole in the first place.”

Thabo Munyai: “No, it seems like they would rather sweep things under the carpet instead of dealing with the people who are costing the state so much money.”

Nkosinathi Zwane: “Yeah, we can all just do better in monitoring the situation. Public officials are accountable to the public so maybe the public can also use that to make them pay for their sins.”

Zandi Sibiya: “It seems that corruption is not taken that seriously by most people. That is really a shame because the country loses billions because of such things.”

Sbongiseni Skhosana: “Corruption is sometimes hard to prove, and in most cases only ends in allegations. If people are ever found guilty of corruption, then the courts decide on the punishment.”
