Learners excel

The learners at Fred Habedi Primary School recently closed off the year by celebrating their great school marks.

The learners where rewarded for their hard work during the year in a fun and different way.

Local businessman, Mike Teke, who is also a past pupil, made sure the top achievers got the best gifts for their efforts.

The top students and the best readers in each grade where given a R3 000 Woolworths voucher each.

All the learners in the school received a Macdonald’s Happy Meal to celebrate the success of their peers.

The school was given a brand new library in 2008 to encourage the learners to read.

This brought about the start of the reading award in addition to the existing academic awards.

Mike says that he has seen a great improvement in the reading over the years and hopes this trend will continue.

“Future plans include getting a full-time librarian to assist the children at any given time,” he said.

The voucher given can be used to purchase food for the festive season as well as a school uniform for next year.

“More than anything we want these children to be motivated and to keep on putting in the effort for their schoolwork,” he concluded.
